What is Kraft Paper?
Kraft paper is produced on paper machines with moderate machine speeds. The raw material is normally softwood pulp from the Kraft process.
Maintaining a high effective sulfur ratio or sulfidity is important for the highest possible strength using the Kraft process.
The Kraft process can use a wider range of fiber sources than most other pulping processes. All types of wood, including very resinous types like southern pine and non-wood species like bamboo and kenaf can be used in the Kraft process.
Newsprint
Newsprint is a clean, smooth sheet that can be used for a variety of applications. Ideally suited for wrapping fragile items and dunnage applications. Packaging newsprint comes from rolls that have been downgraded from prime paper due to imperfections or damage. Therefore, size tolerances may vary due to the availability of master rolls.
Virgin Kraft
Virgin Kraft is used for applications that require higher tear strength. Its low cost and clean fiber content make it especially suited for printed packaging applications. Virgin Kraft is ideal for wrapping, surface protection, pallet interleaving, carrier sheets, and dunnage.
Black Kraft
The major use for Black Kraft is in the picture framing industry as back linings on picture frames and where light barriers are needed.
Recycled Kraft
Due to its recycled fiber content, Recycled Kraft has less strength then Virgin Kraft. However, Recycled Kraft is widely used in dunnage and void fill applications, box and tray liners, interleavers as well as newspaper bottom wrap.
